On Monday, September 8th, at approximately 3:30 PM, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a two–vehicle crash on U.S. Route 30 at the I–88 Mile Marker 44 westbound on–ramp.
Initial investigation by responding deputies and the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit determined that a red Chevrolet Impala was traveling westbound on U.S. Route 30 and attempting to turn westbound onto I–88. The Impala failed to yield to eastbound traffic on U.S. Route 30 and was struck by a red Ford flatbed construction truck.
The passenger of the Impala suffered fatal injuries. The drivers of both vehicles sustained severe injuries. At this time, names are being withheld pending notification of family members. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
Sheriff John F. Booker issued the following statement:
“This is a tragic crash that has claimed a life and left others seriously injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected. Incidents like this remind us all to use extra caution at intersections and yield when required. My office is committed to a full and thorough investigation into this matter.”
The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Illinois State Police, Sterling Fire Department, Rock Falls Fire Department, CGH EMS, Slim N’ Hanks, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and ComEd.
