Representative Brad Fritts passed his first bill out of the Illinois House of Representatives this week.
Under current law in the state of Illinois, motorcycle drivers under the age of 18 are required to take both a Cycle Driver Testing Course provided by IDOT and an additional motorcycle driver’s test at a Secretary of State driver’s facility. Representative Fritts’ measure amends Illinois Vehicle Code. Removes the testing requirement for motorcycle operators who are under the age of 18.
HB 2582 still requires 16-17 year olds to attend and successfully complete a MSF Basic Rider Course, which includes the standard Secretary of State riding test as part of its curriculum and is a higher standard than what is placed on potential riders 18+ in age. However, it eliminates the requirement to test a 2nd time at a Secretary of state facility.
