Ice Jams a Potential on The Rock and other Waterways

SHARE NOW

Lee County officials are warning residents about the potential for freeze-up ice jams along local rivers, including the Rock, Fox, Des Plaines, and Kankakee. Current cold weather conditions are causing rapid river ice formation. With heavy river ice already present in certain locations, the risk of ice jams is increasing.  Observations from river ice spotters and gauges show significant ice formation already present.

These jams could lead to sudden river rises and, potentially, minor flooding in isolated areas. Residents near these rivers are advised to stay alert for any updates and be prepared for possible rapid changes in water levels.
