The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that weather permitting, construction on Illinois 40 in Whiteside County begins Tuesday, May 28th.

The work zone is from Interstate 88 in Rock Falls to Illinois 92. Work will include milling, patching and resurfacing of the road. There also will be daily lane closures during the $6.9 million project, which is expected to be completed in October.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
