The Illinois House, Monday night, passed legislation providing that the land management agreement with the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and other necessary parties for the purpose of managing, maintaining, or operating the real property conveyed to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation shall contain restrictions on gaming operations.
The legislation was contingent upon Senate Bill 867 of the 103rd General Assembly, becoming law. That bill, which authorizes the state to transfer approximately 1,500 acres of land within Shabbona Lake State Park in DeKalb County to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, was signed into law late last month.
State Representative Brad Fritts (R-Dixon) whose district contains the DeKalb County area, rose to discuss House Bill 3176, and said this “is the best we’re going to get” and asked for support of the measure.
