The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that lanes that have been closed for construction will reopen, where possible, for the Thanksgiving holiday to minimize travel disruption.

Non-emergency closures will be suspended from 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 27th, to 11:59 p.m. Sunday, December 2nd.

The following lane closures will remain in place during the holiday weekend. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through these areas. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and stay alert for workers and equipment. At all times, please buckle and drive sober.

In Lee County on Highway 26 near Ohio, lane reductions are in effect, managed by temporary signals. Rock Island County isn’t spared, with I-88 also seeing lane reductions about 10 miles west of Rock Falls.

In Whiteside County, travelers on I-88 will encounter a major closure at the U.S. 30 spur near Como, where all ramps are shut except for the westbound I-88 to Lincoln Road.

Further disruptions continue in Winnebago County on Illinois 2 over the Rock River near Rockton and at the I-39/U.S. 20 interchange south of Rockford, along with Harrison Avenue at I-39 in Cherry Valley. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and seek alternative routes where possible.
