Recent reports indicate that Township Officials of Illinois (TOI) and various local assessors are pushing for more aggressive property tax assessments on portable sheds and similar temporary structures across the state.
Apparently assessors in numerous counties are targeting sheds that are not permanently fixed to a foundation and have no utilities, based solely on their size.
House Minority Leader Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) is sponsoring legislation to prevent this potential tax increase that is not permitted under current law and to bring consistency to the property tax code.

The leaders bill has been unanimously approved in the Revenue and Finance committee and moves on to the full House for consideration.
