During the month of October, the Coliseum Museum of Art, Antiques & Americana (CMAAA) will present new art exhibits by pastel artist Paula Kuehl on the Feature Wall and oil painter Carol Bingham in the Taft Gallery along with a new exhibit by the Rock River Valley Painters Guild.

Paula Kuehl, of McHenry, has been painting since 1981. She started painting with oil paints, which were fun but slow to dry and would become muddy if you didn’t wait for them to dry. When she discovered pastels, she switched to them and never went back. She feels her work is a study capturing the essence of life – whether it be in a child, a flower, or a landscape. Pastels are like life – vibrant and full of energy. That is what she attempts to capture in her works.

Carol Bingham of Sycamore grew up in a small town in central Illinois where she spent much of my childhood playing near rivers and streams. Her early childhood experiences have provided the basis of the paintings on display at CMAAA. She uses traditional oil techniques, first applying opaque, then transparent, layers of color in her work. BFA Illustration summa cum laude Northern Illinois University.

The Rock River Valley Painters Guild (RRVPG) is a not-for-profit organization promoting local art and art education in North Central Illinois. The RRVPG Member exhibit will feature work by ten local artists.

On Friday, October 13th, CMAAA will highlight these exhibits with an Artist Reception from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, with music by Cheryl & the Down Home Boys.

Based in the Woodstock area, Cheryl and the Down Home Boys perform a sweet acoustic blend of American roots music: old time country/ folk/blues and a bit of bluegrass. The band includes Marty Brunkala on mandolin and fiddle, Pete Jonsson on guitar and the occasional harmonica, Jim Siedel on the upright bass and lead vocalist Cheryl Niemo.

The reception is sponsored by Tom & Lisa Gale of Oregon, IL.

The CMAAA mission is to present Art, Antiques, Americana and history through permanent and rotating exhibits, workshops, music, theater and more. Additional information can be found on the website, www.cmaaa.org and Facebook page, www.facebook.com/ColiseumMuseum/
