On Wednesday, October 30th, at 1:05 a.m. the Rock Falls Fire Department, Sterling Fire Department, and CGH EMS were dispatched to a report of a fire in room 102 of Country Inn and Suites at 2106 1st Ave in Rock Falls.
The first arriving crews found smoke on the first floor, evacuation in progress, and a fire in room 102 being held in check by an activated sprinkler head. A MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) Box alarm was requested bringing assistance from Dixon Rural Fire Department, Milledgeville Fire Department, Prophetstown Fire Department and Ambulance, and Amboy Fire Department.
Rock Falls Police officers were on scene prior to the first arriving fire units and aided in the evacuation of the first-floor occupants. Fire crews were able to
extinguish the remaining fire with a pressurized water extinguisher and the fire was reported extinguished at 1:18 a.m. Occupants from all 3 floors were evacuated until the building could be ventilated. Fire damage was limited to room 102, with water damage reaching the hallway.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and electrical in nature. The last fire unit cleared the scene at 3:28 a.m. There were no injuries.
