Numerous Department Respond to Early Morning House Fire

The City of Sterling announced today the Sterling Fire Department, Rock Fall Fire Department, CGH EMS and Sterling Police Department were dispatched for a structure fire in a residential 2 story home. The call came in at 6:02 am on Sunday, December 31st, for the house at 507 15th Avenue. Sterling PD was first to arrive and reported all occupants were out of the home and did rescue a dog as well.

The first arriving Engine reported a working fire, with heavy smoke and fire pushing from what appeared to be the kitchen area at 6:07 am. A MABAS Box 10 to the Box Alarm Level was called for, bringing outside assistance that included: Dixon Rural Fire Department, Prophetstown Fire Protection District, Milledgeville Fire Protection District and Amboy Fire Department’s Assistant Chief to the scene; Morrison Fire Department and Amboy Fire Department covering at Sterling and Rock Falls Fire Departments; and the crew started initial operations.

The fire was brought under control at 6:37 am, with salvage and overhaul started. The fire was investigated by Sterling Fire Department and determined to have started in the kitchen area, but remains under investigation. Com Ed, NICOR, The Red Cross and 800-Board Up also assisted on scene.

There were no injuries to the occupants, however they did sustain a major loss of their contents.
