Legionnaire / Dr Stephan A Schroeder a 53 year member of Morrison Post 328 who currently lives in Mandan, ND was awarded a Quilt of Valor from the Missouri River Quilts of Valor at the Bismarck Amvets Post #9 in North Dakota.

Schroeder served in the U.S Army from 1970 to 1972 in the HQ 2nd/75th Artillery. He served in Hanau, West Germany.  Following his active duty service he served in the Illinois National Guard in Dixon, Illinois. He was honorably discharged in 1976. Schroeder’s primary duty was artillery surveyor specialist and supply sergeant.

He was not called to serve in Vietnam because his brother was serving in Vietnam at that time and they did not want two from the same family serving in Vietnam at the same time he stated.  Schroeder accepted his quilt in honor of his father, a WWII veteran and his younger brother, a Vietnam veteran, who are both deceased. They all served because “Our country needed us to do so at the time.”

The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.
