Emotional testimony filled the Whiteside County Courthouse as Brittney Ramos described the profound loss of her husband, Sterling Fire Lt. Garrett Ramos. Speaking before a 12-member jury, Brittney recounted how her family’s life changed after Garrett, 38, died in December 2021 while fighting a house fire in Rock Falls.

Jurors heard Brittney describe cherished memories and the lasting impact on her two young daughters. The wrongful death lawsuit against Rock Falls fire officials seeks accountability for the oversight that led to Garrett’s fatal fall through a floor firefighters didn’t realize hid a basement. The civil trial continues with further testimony.
