This past week, Governor JB Pritzker once again claimed he is fighting to lower taxes for working and middle-class families. After years of high taxes and fees, Illinois families know that claim simply is not true.
According to the Illinois Policy Institute, Illinois is now taking $1,434 more in taxes from each resident than before Governor Pritzker took office. There have also been 49 tax hikes that Pritzker has passed since 2019.
Affordability can’t just be a political buzzword. Illinois families deserve action to make their dollars go further and help them keep more of their hard-earned money. That’s what House Republicans, like State Representative Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) are fighting for in Springfield.
The Illinois House will be back in session on Tuesday, February 17th, with the governor’s budget address scheduled for the next day.
