Legislation sponsored in the House by State Representative Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) to help ease the stress and inconvenience of frequently going to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), was recently signed into law by the governor.
Senate Bill 275 will give drivers the option not to go to the DMV for as long as eight years to renew their license. Drivers can extend their license expiration date from four years with a fee of $30 (as current) to eight years with a fee of $60.
According to Spain, the bill directs the Secretary of State to begin the offering of an eight-year driver’s license, giving all our drivers and constituents a little more time and convenience without having to renew their driver’s license as frequently.
