The starting point for the Fiesta Parade scheduled for Saturday, September 14th, has been modified. Due to a NICOR gas main replacement project around 10th Street and Avenue A in Rock Falls, the parade will begin on 1st Avenue at East 9th Street this year. This location is one block north of the usual starting route. The parade staging area will be on East 9th Street and East 10th Street. Parade participants need to contact parade organizers for directions.
To allow larger parade entries sufficient space to make the turn from East 9th Street onto the parade route, spectators will not be permitted near the street at the northeast corner of 1st Avenue and 9th Street (O’Reilly Auto Parts). Barriers will be placed there to keep spectators safe.
The parade begins at 1:00pm. 1st Avenue (IL Route 40) will be closed to all traffic from 10th Street in Rock Falls to the Rock River beginning approximately 15 minutes prior to the start of the parade. Traffic control signs, police officers, and public works personnel will be managing the road closures and directing traffic around the parade route. Do not drive around or move barricades!
The Avenue G bridge will remain open for traffic travelling north into Sterling. Westbound traffic on Dixon Avenue will need to detour south on Avenue D to East 11th Street.
Drivers are asked to exercise caution when travelling around the parade route and staging areas and to allow for more time to reach your destination as some delays can be expected.
