A historic Rockford factory is set for a new chapter as four former Gunite Corporation employees relaunch it as Rockford Brake Manufacturing. With a $6.6 million investment and support from the state’s EDGE for Startups program, the company will revive the site closed after Accuride’s bankruptcy filing earlier this year.
The initiative is expected to create 150 jobs, restoring a legacy of brake component production dating back to 1854. The new venture aligns with Illinois’ clean energy goals, with most products made from recycled materials. Local officials are celebrating the move as a boost for both the community and the regional economy.
