Scam Reported in Whiteside County
Whiteside County officials are warning residents about aggressive door-to-door and phone marketers targeting electric customers. Authorities say some individuals are falsely claiming to represent the county or the utility provider MC Squared, in an effort to switch customers into higher-priced retail electric plans.
Residents are being urged not to share utility bills, account numbers, or personal information with anyone who shows up uninvited or calls unexpectedly. Officials say legitimate representatives will not pressure customers or demand to see bills at the door. Anyone who encounters suspicious behavior should contact local police and report the incident immediately.
