On Friday, Federal District Court Judge Stephen P. McGlynn ruled Illinois’ so-called Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA), which bans semi-automatic firearms and their magazines, unconstitutional. He also stayed the injunction for 30 days to provide time for the State to appeal the decision. In response to Judge McGlynn’s ruling, State Senator Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) issued the following statement:
“This ruling comes as no surprise to those who value the U.S. Constitution, and I am delighted with the strong wording in Judge McGlynn’s ruling. When he stated that ‘PICA is an unconstitutional affront to the Second Amendment,’ he vindicates every lawful gun owner who pushed back against Illinois Democrats’ attempts to trample on their constitutional rights when they passed this ill-conceived law.”
