On Saturday, December 14th, Senator Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) is partnering with the Friends Forever Humane Society in Freeport for a Pet Adoption Fair. Visitors at the event will be able to interact with pets available for adoption and enjoy half-price adoptions for cats. “People searching for the perfect pet do not need to look any further than their local animal shelter,” said Chesney. “Rescued pets are so grateful when they are adopted, and they make wonderful companions.”

Senator Chesney’s Pet Adoption Fair Saturday, December 14th, 12:00 Noon until 2:30 PM Friends Forever Humane Society 966 W. Rudy Road, Freeport Senator Chesney is an advocate for the proper treatment of animals, and sponsored Illinois’ original puppy mill ban law in 2021 (House Bill 1711).

During the current General Assembly he also sponsored two additional bills that focus on the ethical treatment of animals: Senate Bill 1882, which prohibits testing facilities from engaging in toxicological experiments involving dogs and cats; and Senate Bill 1230, which closes a loophole in the puppy mill ban law that some bad actors used to sidestep the law against selling puppy mill puppies at pet stores. “I hope to see a large turnout for this event, and that many pets from the Humane Society find a forever home.”
