Senator Arellano Invites Families to Honor Their Veterans

SHARE NOW

State Senator Li Arellano Jr (R-Dixon) is calling on families across the district to help fill the Illinois Capitol Rotunda with the names, faces, and stories of our heroes. In honor of Veterans Day, the “Honoring All Who Served” Veterans Day Display will feature photos and personal stories of Illinois veterans in the Rotunda from Tuesday, October 28th, through Thursday, November 13th.

“Paying tribute to the men and women who defended our nation is one of our most meaningful traditions,” Senator Arellano said. “One of the best ways to do that is by sharing the stories of the veterans in your life. Walking through the display and learning about those who gave everything is a powerful reminder that the freedoms we enjoy today were secured through their courage and sacrifice.”

How to Participate

Families are encouraged to submit a photo and a brief written story (up to 250 words) about their veteran. Please include the veteran’s name, military branch (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy), and the conflict served (Afghanistan, Iraq, September 11, Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Peacetime, or other). Military photos are especially meaningful but not required.

Deadline & Submission

Email submissions to [email protected] by November 8th, 2024. Submissions may also be mailed to: Veterans Day Wall, 110 D Statehouse, Springfield, IL 62706. For questions, call (217) 782-1154.

“Every story added to this display is a lesson in courage for the next generation,” Senator Arellano added. “Please help us honor your loved one’s service at the heart of our state.”
