Sheriff Booker Reflects on ICOPS Cycle Across Illinois

Over the past four days, I had the privilege of participating in the Illinois C.O.P.S. Cycle Across Illinois, a 331mile bicycle ride to honor and support the families of law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice

At 59 years old, this was one of the most physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging experiences I have ever taken on. Of the 331 miles, I rode 319. I missed four miles because of a mechanical issue with my bicycle and another eight miles because I was physically exhausted. I gave this ride everything I had, and I am proud of what I accomplished

As the first Sheriff of Whiteside County to participate in this ride, I was honored to represent the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office and the people of Whiteside County

Throughout the ride, I was reminded that the challenges I faced were small compared to the loss and grief endured by the families of our fallen officers. Hearing their stories, seeing their strength, and riding in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice made this an experience I will never forget

I want to sincerely thank everyone who donated, encouraged me, and supported me along this journey. Your generosity helped support Illinois C.O.P.S. and the families they serve

I also want to thank my family for standing behind me throughout the training and the ride. Your support and encouragement meant more than you know

To Illinois C.O.P.S., thank you for allowing me to be part of this incredible experience. I met amazing people, heard stories I will carry with me forever, and gained an even deeper understanding of what it means to Never Forget.”

Four unforgettable days. 319 miles ridden. One purpose: honoring our fallen officers and supporting the families they left behind

This ride moved me physically, mentally, and emotionally, and it is an experience I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
