The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the homicide that occurred at 702 Richardson Avenue, Apartment A in Ashton on October 15th. An autopsy was conducted this morning at the Peoria County Coroner’s Office on the 16-year-old female victim. The preliminary cause of death has been ruled as strangulation. Per the wishes of the mother, the 16-year-old victim is being identified as Jaedyn A. Hill with a date of birth of 10/06/08.
The Lee County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed charges alleging four counts of First Degree Murder against 17-year-old David J. Sosa of Ashton. The charges against Sosa are being filed as an adult and they carry a sentencing range of 20 to 60 years in the Department of Corrections. A detention hearing was held this morning in Lee County Case Number 24 CF 252. Sosa was remanded to the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center since he is currently 17-years of age.
This investigation began on October 15th at approximately 7:04 a.m. when the Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Rochelle Police Department regarding a subject that walked into their lobby. The subject was identified as David J. Sosa with a date of birth of 12/18/06. Sosa indicated to Rochelle Police Officers that he was involved in a murder. Rochelle Police took the information and provided the apartment address in Ashton for Lee County Deputies to conduct a welfare check. The body of Jaedyn Hill was located inside the apartment. Sosa and Hill resided at the apartment, and they were in a dating relationship.
The Lee County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Lee County Juvenile Probation Department, the Rochelle Police Department, the Illinois State Police – Crime Scene Services, the Lee County Coroner’s Office, and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office have all assisted with the investigation.
