SHARE NOW

Rock Falls city officials have given the green light to a new work schedule for the local fire department. Under a memorandum of understanding, firefighters will test a 48/96 shift pattern for one year, beginning May 1st. This schedule means firefighters will work 48 consecutive hours, followed by 96 hours off.

The goal is to evaluate if this change can enhance work-life balance and operational efficiency. City leaders and department staff will monitor the trial closely, collecting feedback and data to assess its effectiveness before making any permanent adjustments to the firefighters’ work routine.
