A great number of pieces of legislation officially became law on January 1st in the state of Illinois.   One in particular was co-sponsored by House Deputy Minority Leader Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) who called House Bill 1697 a “transformational piece of legislation that positions Illinois to lead the nation in prescription drug affordability.”

Most importantly, according to Spain, the legislation stabilizes the community pharmacies that are so important in rural parts of Illinois, empowers patients with direct rebates and ensures discounts go back to patients to lower the cost of prescription drugs.

The Prescription Drug Affordability Act reforms to crack down on deceptive tactics big pharma middlemen use to unjustly inflate the cost of prescription medications.
