Aida Baker has been appointed as the new Fourth Ward Alderperson, stepping into the role following the passing of Joe Martin. Baker expressed gratitude for the council’s trust in her appointment.

In other council business, Mayor Diana Merdian received approval to collaborate with IDOT, committing local funds for 20% of a new bikeway path along East 2nd Street. City Manager Scott Shumard highlighted that the funding initiative, originally granted in 2021, would enhance connectivity to the riverfront, with construction bids expected by November 10th.

Additionally, the city has set this year’s Trick or Treat hours on October 31st from 4:30 to 7 pm.
