Sterling Man Arrested for Criminal Speed

On Saturday, September 23rd, at 3:35 PM, a deputy conducting traffic enforcement on IL Route 40 near Star Road observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The deputy locked the vehicle’s speed on radar at 94 MPH in the 55 MPH speed zone. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver, Jeremy T. Cornwell, age 23, of Sterling, was charged with Speeding 35 or more over the posted limit, a Class A Misdemeanor. Cornwell was subsequently released with a notice to appear. Class A Misdemeanors carry a penalty of up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $2,500.

The public is reminded that charges are merely an allegation and all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
