    WHAT
    Peak afternoon heat indices between 95 to around 100 degrees.
    WHERE
    Portions of north central, northwest, and west central Illinois, east central, northeast, and southeast Iowa, and northeast Missouri.
    WHEN
    From 10 AM this morning to 8 PM CDT Tuesday.
    IMPACTS
    Hot temperatures and humid conditions may cause heat illnesses.
    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Overnight temperatures in the 70s will provide little relief for those without air conditioning.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Sterling Police Investigating Shots Fired Call

On Tuesday, May 28th, at approximately 9:12pm the Sterling Police Department responded to a report of gun shots being fired in the 2200 block East Lincolnway, Sterling. As officers arrived on scene of the gun shot complaint, they were notified that a male subject had been shot at that location. It was further learned the male gunshot victim was being transported by private vehicle to CGH Medical Center. The gunshot victim, a 28year old male, was later transferred to Javon Bea Hospital, Rockford, in serious condition

This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be released as it is learned

This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is perceived to be no further threat to the public

The Sterling Police Department was assisted by the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services
