On Saturday, March 22nd, approximately 2:30 that afternoon, the Lanark Fire Protection District responded to a request for mutual aid from the Chadwick Fire Protection District for a grass fire located at 21468 Shibley Rd., Chadwick. IL.
While engaged in firefighting operations, two members of the Lanark Fire Protection District sustained injuries. One firefighter was airlifted from the scene by OSF Life Flight and transported to OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford, IL. As of 7:00 PM, the firefighter was in surgery for injuries sustained on the scene.
A second firefighter was transported from the scene by Lanark EMS to Freeport Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford. This firefighter is currently in stable condition.
Additional information regarding the condition of the injured firefighters will be released as it becomes available, pending family notification and updates from medical personnel.
