On Tuesday, September 2nd, at approximately 10:48 a.m., Whiteside County Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Garden Plain Road and Sand Road in rural Fulton.
Emergency crews found five occupants entrapped in the vehicles. Fire and EMS personnel worked to extricate the individuals, who were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa, for treatment.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a Ford Explorer, driven by Julio Ochoa–Mendoza of Savanna, Illinois, was traveling northbound on Sand Road when it failed to stop at a posted stop sign and collided with a truck driven by Bradley Kitzman of Clinton, Wisconsin.
The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Fulton Police Department, Erie Police Department, Morrison Fire and EMS, Fulton Fire and EMS, Albany Fire and EMS, and Cordova Fire Department.
“Our thoughts are with those injured in this crash, and we are grateful for the efforts of all the agencies that responded,” said Sheriff John F. Booker. “This incident is a reminder of how important it is for drivers to obey traffic signs and stay alert to prevent tragedies on our roads.”
The crash remains under investigation by the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office.
