Updated Release on Rock Falls Shooting

The investigation is ongoing. A person of interest has been identified and investigators are actively following up on leads, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses. However, no arrests have been made. There is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public or any individuals.

Rock Falls Police have been assisted by Sterling Police, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police Troop 1 and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services.

On Thursday, September 28th, at approximately 7:36pm Rock Falls Police responded to a 9-1-1 caller reporting a person shot in the 200 block of East 10th Street. Officers arrived in the area and located a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm and chest. He was taken to CGH Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries and was later flown to OSF Children’s Hospital in Peoria for additional treatment. The juvenile is still hospitalized at this time.
