The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office is reaffirming its unwavering commitment to safeguarding one of the community’s most vulnerable populations our elderly residents. Through the dedicated work of the department’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU), the Sheriff’s Office is proactively working to identify, investigate, and prevent crimes targeting senior citizens across the county.
The SIU not only focuses specifically on crimes against children and internet crimes against children, but also on crimes against the elderly, including financial exploitation, scams, abuse, and neglect. The unit collaborates closely with local organizations, community partners, and state and federal policing agencies to ensure that seniors in Whiteside County are protected, well–informed, and supported.
“Our elderly residents deserve to live without fear and with the dignity and respect they have earned,” said Sheriff John F. Booker. “The Special Investigation Unit plays a critical role in holding offenders accountable and educating the community to prevent these crimes before they happen.”
The Sheriff’s Office urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspected abuse, neglect, or fraud involving elderly individuals. Community awareness and swift reporting are vital tools in preventing these crimes and promoting a safer environment for all.
