Illinois youth turkey hunters have achieved a new milestone this 2026 season, with a record-setting 2,318 birds harvested statewide, according to the Department of Natural Resources. Southern counties, including Jefferson, topped the statewide tally.
Closer to home, Whiteside County reported 25 turkeys harvested by young hunters, a slight decrease from last year’s 27. Wildlife officials say these numbers reflect growing interest in the sport across Illinois, while regional trends vary. The DNR continues to support youth participation with education programs and accessible hunting areas, aiming to balance conservation efforts with recreational opportunities.
