Significant Damage to Second Floor from Fire on West Water Street Wednesday Night

The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 143 West Water Street last night. Crews arriving just after 7 PM found flames engulfing the first and second floors on the building’s east side. Battalion Chief Jim Pendergast led the response, with Central Station firefighters quickly attacking and extinguishing the blaze. No occupants or pets were discovered inside, and there were no reported injuries. An emergency callback brought off-duty personnel in to maintain city coverage. The building’s second floor suffered significant fire and smoke damage. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
