The downtown revitalization project on Simmons Street is moving steadily toward its fall completion date. Fueled by a $2.1 million Rebuild Illinois grant, major upgrades are transforming the area, with decorative lighting, new storm sewers, and most street work already finished. In the coming weeks, crews will finish curb and sidewalk projects, complete concrete and asphalt work, and add fresh pavement markings. By late October, the project is expected to be completed, featuring resurfaced roads, ADA-compliant sidewalks, landscaping, benches, and a pedestrian canopy. City officials say these improvements will make downtown Galesburg more inviting and accessible for all.

“The City of Galesburg is truly grateful for the Rebuild Illinois grant that made this project possible,” said Aaron Gavin, Director of Public Works. “We appreciate the patience of our residents while the improvements have been underway and look forward to seeing these improvements create a more vibrant and accessible downtown for years to come.”
