The FLOCK camera system aided in the apprehension of six juveniles in two stolen vehicles early Thursday morning. The Flock camera system alerted Kewanee Police that a vehicle reported stolen from Peoria had entered Kewanee city limits around 4:15 am on July 4, 2024. Kewanee Police officers and Henry County Sheriff’s Office deputies began searching the area for the stolen vehicle, and located the vehicle at Beck’s South on Tenney Street. Along with the stolen vehicle, officers discovered another vehicle from Brimfield that was stolen, had not been reported yet.
As officers arrived at the gas station, five suspects fled on foot. One suspect was immediately apprehended and a sixth suspect was apprehended inside the gas station. According to scanner traffic, one suspect fled onto Wethersfield property, and after a short chase by a Henry County deputy, was quickly apprehended. Three more suspects fled to the west. Two of the suspects were apprehended by a deputy, and after a few minutes, they said the fourth suspect, had fled north. The sixth suspect was apprehended not long after. The six suspects were transported to the Kewanee Police Department and issued juvenile referrals. They were released to the custody of their guardians and DCFS.
According to the release, the Kewanee Police Department received calls from kewanee residents who witnessed the juveniles running or hiding. “We would like to thank the community for their assistance in helping us locate all the suspects.”
