State Senator Li Arellano Jr. of Dixon has begun his work on the Interagency Task Force on Homelessness, following his recent appointment by Senate Republican Leader John Curran. Arellano participated in his first Home Illinois Summit Program, listening to leaders combating homelessness statewide. The Task Force, operating under the Illinois Department of Human Services, aims to reach functional zero homelessness by driving systemic reforms and coordinating comprehensive support services. Arellano emphasized the importance of aligning resources, shaping policy, and fostering collaboration to address the growing crisis. The Task Force’s next meeting is set for September 11, 2025.
“Homelessness is a serious and growing issue across our state and nation,” said Senator Arellano. “We need to tackle its root causes and work together to develop real, long-term solutions. This summit allowed me to hear directly from leaders on the front lines, giving me valuable insight into how legislators can better support efforts at the state level.”
“This Task Force plays a critical role in aligning resources, shaping policy, and fostering collaboration across agencies and communities,” Senator Arellano added. “We must continue to prioritize this work if we want to build a more supportive, responsive system that truly meets the needs of vulnerable individuals and families.”
