To boost community health, the Henry and Stark County Health Departments have announced the observance of National Influenza Vaccination Week, set for December 2-6, 2024. This initiative encourages residents to receive their flu vaccinations, reminding the public that it’s not too late to protect themselves against the upcoming flu season. Vaccinations are available across their First Choice Healthcare Clinics in Kewanee, Colona, and Toulon. This year, along with the flu shot, Pfizer’s updated COVID-19 vaccinations are also available for adults and children six months and older. RaeAnn Tucker, Director of Health Promotion, highlights the importance of vaccinations, particularly for those with chronic health conditions such as asthma and diabetes. The health departments also stress the importance of maintaining preventive measures like hand hygiene and mask-wearing during the flu season.
RaeAnn Tucker, Health Department Director of Health Promotion, said, “Vaccination is particularly important for people who are most vulnerable to developing serious flu complications, including people with certain chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease. In fact, last flu season 9 out of 10 adults hospitalized for flu had at least one reported underlying medical condition.”
