Hundreds of area seniors gathered in Carthage on Thursday as State Senator Neil Anderson and State Representative Norine Hammond hosted another successful Senior Expo. The event, aimed at connecting seniors in rural communities to critical resources, drew strong participation, with nearly 40 organizations on hand. Free health screenings, prescription drug disposal, and veterans’ services were among the offerings. Organizers stressed the importance of making vital support easily accessible to older residents. Both officials voiced plans to expand the expo in the coming years, saying it creates not only a hub for services but also a valuable opportunity to hear directly from the senior community.
“Our seniors play an incredible role in our communities and hosting an event like this in a rural area ensures they have convenient access to important services,” said Senator Anderson.
“This event is truly a one-stop shop for seniors in west central Illinois,” said Representative Hammond. “It’s not only a chance to connect our senior community with the services they need, but it also allows us as legislators to hear directly from residents and service providers about the issues that matter most.”
