A suspect is in custody after a robbery at Beck’s Gas Station on East Main Street in Galesburg just after 2 AM on Monday, January 12, 2026. Authorities say a masked suspect entered the store, demanded money from the clerk, and left with cash and other items. Police canvassed the area and soon located Maxwell Burton, age 29, only a few blocks away. Officers recovered evidence linking Burton to the crime. He was taken into custody and charged with robbery. Burton is currently being held at the Knox County Jail, where he awaits his first court appearance. The investigation involved both the Galesburg Police and the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.
