In the early hours of March 30, 2025, Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a collision between a train and a white Cadillac SUV near State Street in East Galesburg. Donell Matthews, 50, from Galesburg, exited the vehicle before the crash and fled. Authorities later apprehended Matthews and charged him with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and trespassing on railroad property. Assistance came from Galesburg Police, Illinois State Police, and East Galesburg Fire Department. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and BNSF train operations restarted after clearing the tracks.
