In Kewanee, the spirit of a beloved local hero lives on through a heartwarming food drive this holiday season. Known for his immense generosity and passion for food, this cherished community member dedicated much of his life to feeding those in need. The Gordon Vickrey food drive is named after Gordon because of his dedication to feeding those in need. His daughter, Sarah Vickrey Titlow, shared his story on her Facebook page. He volunteered at the Kewanee Food Pantry two days a week and played a pivotal role in annual food drives, including delivering over 800 Good Fellow Christmas food baskets last year. To honor his legacy, residents are encouraged to contribute to this year’s food drive in various ways, such as by donating goods and money or through online platforms. Let’s embrace his love for giving and continue to support our community with warmth and kindness. “Whether he gave you Kiwanis pancake tickets, Zion Lutheran Fish Fry tickets, a slice of pie from Myrtle’s in Princeton, a jar of his “famous” horseradish… Let’s learn from his generosity!” “This Christmas Season I am asking for you to consider giving to this food drive to honor my dad’s memory and in honor of all he did to feed Kewanee.”
There are many ways you can donate. You can drop off food at Kewanee High School or Sarah’s front porch, drop off cash or check (made out to Kewanee Food Pantry or Good Fellows) at Kewanee High School or Sarah’s house, or Venmo Sarah your donation @Sarah-VickreyTitlow. You can still donate through PayPal, Venmo, or mail a donation to GoodFellows Christmas Baskets Club, PO Box 5, Kewanee, IL 61443.
