Taurean Bond and Gaby Solano presented a check for $500 to Mark Mikenas towards the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce fireworks fund. Timeout Pub & Grub hosted a “Pedal Party” on Saturday, June 15th, to benefit the Kewanee fireworks fund. The Pedal Party is for people 21 years and older who ride bicycles—no motors allowed—from bar to bar to raise money for a local charity. Over twenty people, including Taurean, braved the high temperatures to raise money for the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July fireworks fund. Taurean Bond said they chose the fireworks fund because they knew Mark Mikenas was struggling to raise enough money to cover the increased costs of the fireworks show.
Mark Mikenas said they are grateful for the donation from Timeout Pub & Grub. He said they still need a few more thousand due to the increased cost of the fireworks and insurance premiums. Mark said they have been lucky to reach their fundraising goal for the last two or three years, and they hope they can reach their goal again this year. You can donate in money canisters in stores around Kewanee; round-up at Save-a-Lot goes through July 4th; or mail or drop off at the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce office. The Kewanee Chamber of Commerce is located at 113 East Second Street.
When Taurean Bond took over Timeout Pub & Grub, he wanted to continue being community-focused even while running a successful business. Timeout Pub & Grub started handing out sack lunches to neighborhood children after they found local children stopping by who were hungry but didn’t have money for a meal after school was out for the summer. As of Tuesday morning, Taurean said they had handed out around 25 sack lunches to children. Taurean and Gaby have been best friends for over 20 years. Taurean said that Gaby’s financial expertise has helped them make improvements at Timeout Pub & Grub without taking out any loans. Taurean plans to purchase the business in the near future.
You can eat a great meal and attend future events while meeting the great owners and staff at Timeout Pub & Grub at 200 East Seventh Street in Kewanee. There is a possible future community event that will benefit the Kewanee Henry County Humane Society. Taurean Bond said he and Gaby are always thinking of new ideas and ways to help, so watch their Facebook page for future events.
