Toulon Woman Identified from Fatal Accident in Knox County on March 1, 2024

The Knox County Coroner, Mark Thomas, released the names of the people involved in the fatal accident on March 1, 2024, on Knox County Highway 4 that left one woman dead. Mariliel Slightom, 38, of Toulon, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Charles Slightom and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.  Charles Slightom, 41, of Toulon, was transported by Life Flight with life-threatening injuries. Charles Slightom was cited for Disobeying a Traffic Control Device, Driving While License Suspended, Driving Under the Influence, Operating Uninsured Vehicle, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. Ariel Harlan, 24, of Toulon, was the driver of Unit 2 and was transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Joshua Zuelly, 28, of Toulon, was treated on the scene, and a juvenile child, 2, was transported by family to an area hospital.   This crash remains under investigation.

Preliminary information indicates Unit 1 was traveling north on Knox Highway 15 when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. Unit 2 was traveling west on Knox Highway 4 when Unit 2 struck the passenger side of Unit 1. This caused Unit 1 and Unit 2 to go off the roadway to the north.

All persons mentioned are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
