The Peoria County State’s Attorney, Jodi Hoos, filed three counts of First Degree Murder against a 14-year-old for the fatal shooting of a Peoria teen last month. The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office also filed a Petition to charge the juvenile as an adult. On August 22, 2023, around 8 PM, a 14-year-old shot and killed a teen near the intersection of Kansas and Wisconsin Streets, in broad daylight, in front of several people, including a 10-year- old and 13-year-old. A video of the incident shows the defendant pulling out a gun and shooting at 17-year-old Dahvie P. Brown-Bey four times, three of the shots were fired at his head from point-blank range.
The murder charge does not automatically transfer to adult court because the defendant is under 16 years of age. A hearing to determine if the defendant will be charged as an adult is on October 5, 2023. The defendant will remain in custody of the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
“The actions displayed by this defendant are not the actions of a juvenile. He shot this person multiple times, execution-style, in broad daylight for all the world to see. Those are the actions of a cold-blooded adult killer, & that’s exactly how my office will treat him.” Jodi Hoos, Peoria County State’s Attorney
