American Gold Star Mothers Looking to Honor Late Kewanee Soldier

Joseph Anthony “Tony” Silvaggio V was an Army Specialist stationed in San Antonio, Texas when he passed away on February 6th, 2023, at the Brooke Army Medical Center. His passing came after a nearly year long battle with Leukemia. Now, American Gold Star Mothers are rallying to honor him. In a post on the American Gold Star Mothers Facebook page, the American Gold Star Mothers called on Gold Star Families to turn out and honor Specialist Silvaggio at a Public Visitation to be held tomorrow, February 16th, 2023, from 12 Noon until 2 Pm, at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Families are those who have lost someone who passed away while being a member of the American Military. Gold Star Mothers go out of their way to organize when a member of the military family passes away. They make sure to honor anyone who dies while a member of the armed forces. It’s a tradition that dates all the way back to World War 1 when the mothers of soldiers killed in action, came rallied around the symbol of the Gold Star given to families of soldiers killed in battle.
