Ashton Powers Got Four Years in Prison for Possession of a Weapon by A Felon

Ashton Powers, 26, of Kewanee accepted a plea deal that sends him to the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for four years.  Powers Plead guilty to Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and the remaining charges were dismissed by the State.  Powers got four years in IDOC (must serve 50%), received credit for 154 days served, six months of Mandatory Supervised Release upon release from IDOC, fines and assessments and he must report to Court Services within 30 days of release from IDOC to make arranges for monies owed.  On October 30, 2022, the Kewanee Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance and a gunshot in the 1300 block of Rockwell.  During an argument with his ex-girlfriend, Powers fired a shot while his ex-girlfriend was loading a child into her car.  A search warrant was executed by the Kewanne Police Department at Mr. Powers residence and weapons, ammunition and drugs were recovered inside the residence.   Powers was charged with two (2) counts of Unlawful Use or Possession of Weapons by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony) and Aggravated Assault (Class 4 Felony).
