The Wanee Cinemas is jumping on the ‘Barbenheimer’ train. With Barbie being held over for another week, the Wanee Cinemas is bringing Oppenheimer to Kewanee, giving fans the chance to experience the strangest and yet most popular of double features of 2023. Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s sprawling atomic era story, Oppenheimer opened nationwide on the same weekend and movie fans created an unexpected phenomenon, seeing both of these very different movies as a double feature. The phenomenon helped both movies become box office hits, even as they are remarkably different films.
Oppenheimer is a sprawling three hour epic from director Christopher Nolan that tracks the creation of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki through the story of the man who is credited with creating the bombs, Dr. Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy. The cast of Oppenheimer also includes Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Alden Ehrenreich, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Rami Malek, and Matt Damon. The film has made more than $556 million dollars at the box office while Barbie has gone on to make more than one Billion dollars.
