One of the most anticipated and talked about movies of 2023, Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is coming to Kewanee. The Wanee Cinemas confirmed to WKEI that they will be bringing the Barbie movie to Kewanee beginning July 21st with evening shows starting at 7 PM on Friday night. Directed by Greta Gerwig and featuring a large and diverse cast, Barbie has become one of the most talked about and anticipated pop culture phenomenon’s in recent memory. The film is widely anticipated by paying audiences and has been eagerly embraced by critics as well. RottenTomatoes.com has the film with an 89% positive ratings from film critics across the country. The film has recently become part of a meme with another Friday release, Oppenheimer from director Christopher Nolan with fans planning to see both films in a single day in one of the stranger double features you can image. That said, only Barbie will be in Kewanee this weekend. The Wanee Cinemas will be holding over the Indiana Jones adventure, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny for another week of showings alongside Barbie.
