Black Hawk College Accepting Applications for Physical Therapist Assistant Program until February 1st

The need for physical therapy services is expanding rapidly. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment for physical therapist assistants will grow by 26% through 2031, adding approximately 25,600 new jobs. Black Hawk College is accepting applications for its Physical Therapist Assistant Program through Wednesday, February 1, 2023. The application requires letters of recommendation and candidate interviews. The nationally accredited program admits up to 24 students for each incoming class. The next class will begin in August 2023.

The Physical Therapist Assistant Program is housed in the state-of-the-art Health Sciences Center at the college’s Quad-Cities Campus in Moline. It is an Associate in Applied Science degree program that takes five semesters/72 credit hours to complete. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for physical therapist assistants, or PTAs, was $61,180 in May 2021.

PTAs work with patients who have injuries or health-related conditions that limit their ability to move and perform daily activities. PTAs work under the supervision and direction of a physical therapist, or PT, to implement a treatment plan for their patients.  “As a physical therapist assistant, you make a difference every day in the lives of your patients,” said program director Dianne Abels.
