The campus of Black Hawk College East will be closed on October 9th, to honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Though not a federal holiday, Indigenous Peoples’ Day is acknowledged as a National Holiday. Indigenous Peoples’ Day was enacted in October of 2021 as a National Holiday by President Joe Biden in a proclamation. From the words of the President:
“On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor America’s first inhabitants and the Tribal Nations that continue to thrive today. I encourage everyone to celebrate and recognize the many Indigenous communities and cultures that make up our great country.”
